and Contact details
Spalding Arts and Crafts Society is proud to be one of the oldest established societies for visual arts and craftwork in the country. The first records show that the society was formed in 1916 and meetings were held at the Johnson Hospital in Spalding. It is popularly believed that the society was set up as therapy for servicemen wounded in the First World War. Spalding Town Council sponsored its first exhibition in 1918.
One or two exhibitions have been held every year since then along with other displays at a variety of venues. In 1930 the society was invited to hold its exhibition at Aycoughfee Hall - a tradition that continues to this day.
The present day society continues to thrive. Members exhibit their work in local and national exhibitions and galleries. There are monthly demonstrations by notable professional artists from all over the country, where members and visitors can get inspiration and tips, with a break for tea or coffee and a biscuit.
